چکیده

Experimental techniques for high-strain-rate measurements and for the study of impactrelated problems are described. An approach to classifying these experimental techniques is presented, and the state-of-the-art is briefly described. An in-depth description of the basis for high-strain-rate experiments is presented, with an emphasis on the development of a range of strain rates and a range of stress states. The issues associated with testing metals, ceramics and soft materials are reviewed. Next, experimental techniques that focus on studying the propagation of waves are considered, including plate impact and shock experiments. Experiments that focus on the development of dynamic failure processes are separately reviewed, including experiments for studying spallation and dynamic fracture. 33.1 High Strain Rate Experiments ................ 2 33.1.1 Split-Hopkinson or Kolsky Bars ...... 3 33.1.2 Extensions and Modifications of Kolsky Bars .............................. 9 33.1.3 The Miniaturized Kolsky Bar........... 13 33.1.4 High Strain Rate Pressure-Shear Plate Impact ................................ 14 33.2 Wave Propagation Experiments ............. 17 33.2.1 Plate Impact Experiments.............. 17 33.3 Taylor Impact Experiments .................... 21 33.4 Dynamic Failure Experiments ................. 21 33.4.1 Void Growth and Spallation Experiments ........... 22 33.4.2 Shear Band Experiments ............... 23 33.4.3 Expanding Ring Experiments ......... 24 33.4.4 Dynamic Fracture Experiments ....... 25 33.4.5 Charpy Impact Testing................... 25 33.5 Further Reading ................................... 25 References .................................................. 26

Mechanical Behavior of TWIP Steel in High Strain Rate Torsional Test

Advanced high strength steels (AHSS) have recently attracted great attention because of their superior mechanical properties. A modern group of these steels, known as twinning induced plasticity (TWIP) steels, shows a unique combination of strength and ductility even at high rates of strain. In order to examine the functionality of such steels in dynamic loading conditions, their mechanical beh...

Influence of High Strain Rates on the Mechanical Behavior of High-Manganese Steels

In this work, dynamic mechanical properties of three high-manganese steels with TRIP/TWIP or fully TWIP characteristics are studied. High strain rate experiments in the range of true strain rates between ~500 and 1800 /s are conducted using a dynamic torsional testing setup. All the three steels show a positive strain rate sensitivity in the intermediate range of strain rates (up to 500 /s). Bu...

Impact of High Strength Rebars on Seismic Behavior of Lightly Reinforced Boundary Elements

Considering economical reasons and attempting to reduce carbon foot print of concrete structures, there is increasing tendency toward use of high strength reinforcement in seismically active regions. ACI 318-19, Iranian steel rebars standard INSO 3132 and next edition of Iranian national building allow the use of high strength rebars in elements of ductile force resisting systems. Therefore it ...

PREDICTION OF HOT DEFORMATION BEHAVIOUR OF A PH STAINLESS STEEL AT HIGH STRAIN RATES

In this study the hot deformation behaviour of a precipitation hardened (PH) stainless steel at high strain rates has been predicted through hot compression testing. Stress-strain curves were obtained for a range of strain rates from 10-3 to 10+1 S-1 and temperatures from 850 to 1150°C. Results obtained by microstructure and stress-strain curves show that at low temperatures and high strain rat...

Modifications to Walker-Anderson Model for Analysis of High-velocity Penetration of an Eroding Long-rod Projectile into Semi-infinite Concrete Targets

This paper presents a modified form of the Walker-Anderson (W-A) model for analyzing high velocity penetration of an eroding projectile into a concrete target in which the W-A model is improved by incorporating calculations for the plastic flow field of concrete in terms of its compressibility and strain rate sensitivity under severe pressure. With the changes to and calculations of plastic fie...
